What is a Chapter Lead?
A Chapter Lead leads a "chapter" — a group of people with the same specialism (for example backend development, testing, business analysis or UX) who work in different squads within the scaled agile structure known as the Spotify model. The Chapter Lead is responsible for their professional growth, craft standards and, in most organizations, performance and career conversations.
Chapter Leads usually keep working as practitioners in a squad themselves. The role therefore combines technical excellence with people leadership: the Product Owner focuses on "what" to build, while the Chapter Lead focuses on "how" the work is done well and on developing the people in the chapter.
