Answers to the most common questions about PMP, PSM, PSPO, PMI-ACP, CBAP/CCBA and ISTQB certifications.
Project Management (PMP)
In addition to 35 contact hours of project management education (or the CAPM certification), you need at least 36 months of project management experience within the last eight years with a four-year degree, or at least 60 months with a secondary degree. Always check PMI's official handbook for current rules.
The exam is taken by appointment at Prometric test centers or online (from your home or office computer). Dates are scheduled through Prometric based on your request.
The exam has 180 questions; you have 230 minutes, with two 10-minute breaks. PMI does not publish an official passing score; results are based on performance across the exam domains.
The fee is USD 405 for PMI members and USD 575 for non-members. PMI membership and PMI Turkey Chapter dues are paid separately; membership often pays for itself through the exam discount. Check pmi.org for current fees.
Agile (PSM, PSPO, PMI-ACP)
No. There are no prerequisites for PSM I. The exam is taken online through Scrum.org, and you pass with a score of at least 85% (68 correct answers out of 80 questions).
PSM II requires holding PSM I; it is an online exam with an 85% passing score. PSM III combines essay writing with multiple-choice questions and also requires an 85% passing score.
Since the November 2024 update, PMI-ACP requires 28 hours of agile training and at least 24 months of agile project experience within the last five years. The exam is multiple choice, taken online or at a test center. Always check PMI's official handbook for current rules.
Business Analysis (CBAP & CCBA)
You need at least 7,500 hours of business analysis experience within the last 10 years, distributed as required across IIBA's 6 knowledge areas, plus 35 hours of professional development training and 2 references.
The exam is in English and consists of scenario-based multiple-choice questions; you have 3.5 hours to answer 120 questions.
CCBA has a lower experience threshold, while its process and exam format are similar to CBAP; it is well suited to mid-level business analysts.
Software Testing (ISTQB)
There are no general prerequisites; however, basic knowledge of software testing processes is an advantage.
After completing the Foundation Level, we recommend advanced training to specialize in one of the Test Manager, Test Analyst or Technical Test Analyst tracks.
